Analysis of Operation Susannah and the Lavon Affair
In 1954, Israel carried out a plan to recruit local
Jews in
Egypt to bomb Egyptian, American, and British-owned buildings,
and those terror attacks would be blamed on the Muslim Brotherhood and Egyptian
communists so they can trick the British and the United States into an
armed conflict over the Suez Canal.
This false flag operation was codenamed Operation Susannah.
After two US libraries, a post office, and two theaters were blown
up, the operation unraveled when one of the bombs prematurely blew
up in one of the operative's pockets outside of the third theater they were
about to bomb. The failure of the operation resulted in
the arrest
of 11 operatives and became known as the Lavon Affair, after
the defense minister of Israel who had to resign.
Israel denied involvement in the incident until March
2005, when the surviving agents were awarded certificates of
appreciation by the Israeli president, Moshe Katsav.
Also, they were granted formal military ranks in
the
IDF. They literally got awarded for bombing US
buildings. Truly the United States' greatest ally.
