Woman recounts abuse alongside her brother on the way to Tartus

So he came up to my brother Bashir and told him,“ Insult her.” He mentioned

specific insults and asked my brother Bashir to insult me,“ Insult her like this.”

Bashir would tell him,“ I can’t insult her like that,” so they would beat him,

beat him, and insult her.

So I told him, I mean I was standing next to him,“ Of course we were handcuffed

and blindfolded,

and our hands were on the wall,” so I told him,“ Enough, insult me, just insult me,

better than you getting beaten, insult me, it’s fine, insult me.”

So Bashir started insulting me then, because he was being tortured a lot and beaten.

Then they put us in a military vehicle

and took us to the investigation branch in Tartus.

And of course the whole time

they were beating us along the entire way, which was about an hour.

And I was remembering God at that time,

praying,“ O Lord, protect us, O Lord, keep us safe,

O Lord,” and they would say to me,“ Yeah, pray, pray, pray,

pray. Where is God now to take you out of our hands?

God right now cannot take you out of our hands.

Pray, pray,” and they kept beating us.
