Impact of Sleep on Brain Health
One thing that the cleaning system does,
it cleans up any little amyloid or calcified
plaques that can start to build up in the front part of
the brain.
So I'm gonna quote two very famous people
that boasted on only needing five hours sleep a night.
One was Margaret Thatcher.
Now, I think those five hours of sleep a night
was not, um...
it was not the early part of the night, was it?
Her five hours probably started at about 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning.
How did she spend the last 20 years of her life?
Severe dementia, Alzheimer's. And what they have found
in Alzheimer and, uh, dementia
patients when they've done post-mortems on them, they've got
amyloid plaques built up here. Now, this is where our
reason, intellect, and judgment is.
When someone's got Alzheimer's, how's their reason, intellect, and
judgment?
Gone. Not there. And they have
discovered that it's these amyloid calcified plaques
that are inhibiting reason, intellect, and
judgment
