Future of the US Dollar as Reserve Currency
argue about the dollar as the central reserve currency of the world?
Yeah, well, I'll make this one easy.
If the United States is not the preeminent military and the preeminent economy in 30
or 40 years, we will not be the preeminent reserve currency.
That is what it relates to.
It also relates to our rule of law, that you can buy and sell dollars.
You can buy a house.
You can start a business.
You can't do all that in China without the permission of the government, what you can
do with your dividends and all the things like that.
So it's still a very powerful thing.
I mean, here's a IQ test.
Ready?
Uh-oh.
Uh-oh.
If you could only invest all your money in one country, what country would it be?
Yeah, there's only one obvious answer.
And it's because of the dynamic economy.
It's because you own the dollars because it's a free country.
We've got rule of law.
You can buy things.
It's also protected by the United States military.
Thank you, General Milley.
It's protected by courts, the Atlantic and the Pacific.
You know, I was in a country in the Middle East and someone was telling me that they
were taking their gold out of the vaults in the United States and they're bringing it
here because, like, they're pissed off at us.
I was like, well, yeah, that's really great, except there are three armies who can come
take your gold right now.
And that is the world.
And people forget it's a tough world.
That's real politics stuff.
And so, yeah, you're safe today as long as we don't ruin the free and Western world
over time.
