Understanding Money for Formerly Poor Individuals
Okay, so if you did not grow up with money,
if you're a former poor person like me,
here are some things you need to understand about money.
Or else, if you don't understand these things,
you would actually go back to
poverty no matter how much money you make.
If you are coming from poverty, the first big money you make,
you're gonna waste
it. It's inevitable. See, you're gonna waste that money,
and it's not because
you're bad at spending or you do not understand investments,
it's because of your
nervous system. So your nervous system always wants to go
back to its
baseline, right? You came from poverty, that is your baseline.
Now you're seeing money. Your nervous system
is not safe around money.
You're shaking. You want to spend.
So if you don't overspend, you're gonna get scammed.
If you don't get scammed, you're gonna start giving people money.
Like, y- you just wanna get rid of that money, right?
So the first money you're gonna make, to be honest, inevitable, you're gonna
blow it un- unless you figure out how to get your
nervous
system to be safe around money. After learning how to get your nervous
system safe
with money, which is gonna take a lot of time, right,
and a lot of rewiring and,
you know, reworking your brain, the second thing you wanna do
is you stay away
from investments or any investment for the first three months after you make money.
So let's say, like, you sell a product. Let's say you sell a product, right?
And you've never seen money before.
You sold a product, you made 100 million.
Resist the urge to go into business investments for the next three to four
months. I know your body will be shaking. "Oh, I want to invest.
I think..." That's your nervous system.
It wants to spoil your life so that you can waste that money.
By leaving that money alone, what you're training yourself to do
is to feel safe
around that kind of money. It's just like person
that have not eaten before, when
food is inside fridge, right? If you've never seen food before,
your body will be
shaking. Until you finish that food inside fridge,
your body will not calm down.
But when you are used to food being inside fridge, your body will not shake.
When, when I was growing up, right,
uh, we didn't have so much... lot of the kind of foods that I want.
We didn't have them to eat. The first thing I did when I had money
was to stock my
house with so much food. I used to shake. I was very, very big. I used to shake.
Right now that I'm used to having so much food, I don't feel the need to
necessarily eat like a glutton, 'cause I know there's still gonna be food
tomorrow.
The third thing, you know, I would want you guys to do is also
resist the urge to change your lifestyle.
Whatever money you think you have, you actually don't have as much money as
you
think you have if it's not in your current and if it's not cash flow.
So it's easy to make, like, 100 million once.
Are you gonna make it next month?
Are you gonna make it next two months? Are you gonna make it next three months?
Ag- again, like everything that I'm saying right now,
your problem will be solved if you can just let
that money breathe in your account.
Just leave it alone. Just live your normal lifestyle like
you're living.
Like, if you're staying in a two-bedroom, stay in your two-bedroom.
Like, enjoy yourself. And for me, I did not leave my two-bedroom until after
four
years. Like, I stayed in my two-bedroom for four years.
Like, the house that I've been living, my rent was, like,
1 million naira for four
good years. Even after I've been making money,
making money, making money, I was
still staying in my two-bedroom. In my two-bedroom flat. I did not leave.
Resist the urge to perform for a crowd, to prove yourself to
people. See, let me tell you something.
One mistake that I made, and I was telling Lawrence this thing one day.
I said there was a time in my life, there was a split second where I let
social media
get into my head, and I was trying to perform.
I caught myself doing that thing, and I had to stop it. I said, "Ife, stop.
"I don't perform for who? What are you performing for?
If you people say that my wig is not fine, no problem.
If you people say that my clothes is not fine, no problem."
Do you understand?
If you ever feel yourself... And that thing will happen to you
if you're a former
poor man, because, again, you already feel the insecurity about
poverty.
Even if you make money, the insecurity about poverty doesn't go.
So if somebody says you don't have money or you want to show and you want to prove
that, "Oh, I have money," you don't have to do that.
And I think also, like, that would also come with time.
Like, for me, there was a time... There was a split second I
was performing for the
internet. There was a s- a split second where I would constantly
want to show.
Like, this year I'm like, "Fuck it." Like, I, I don't wanna show anybody anything.
Like, I don't care. Like, I'm just focusing on my business.
Like, for me, that's, you know... Again, it comes with time.
So those are the four things that I would say that you should learn,
you know,
especially with money, if you don't wanna go back into poverty.
So f- And the most important one is to regulate your nerv- nervous system.
If you guys want materials on how to do that, I can drop, you know, four
resources that you guys should watch on how to regulate your nervous system.
But that is what is gonna change your life. That is what
is gonna save your life.
