Discussion on Measles Outbreak and Vaccination
Every meal, but, you know, we will make sure
that you're taken care of.
Has the war had an impact on your campaign at this point?
It looks like the polls are showing it kind of neck and neck.
We're not gonna talk about that. We're gonna keep the questions on today's
topic.
Is there any other questions?
Mr. Secretary, uh, do you believe that five deaths,
potentially six, from measles in the state of Pennsylvania
is acceptable?
We're also not gonna talk about measles.
He's the highest-ranking-
I'm asking-
... health official in the country. He can answer that question.
He's a cabinet secretary. Mr. Secretary?
Uh, we've done better. They're-- We're having a global
measles outbreak right now. It's all over the world,
and the measles outbreak is
occurring because so many people went unvaccinated
during the COVID pandemic, and this is something that
Anthony Fauci, in fact, predicted.
He said, "We're gonna kill more people from measles
than we save from COVID
as we're shutting down measles vaccination programs." So now, six years
later,
we're seeing that population. We have a global outbreak.
We have done better, and particularly my administration has
done better at
controlling the outbreak than any other country in the world.
Mexico, we've had four thousand measles cases this
year.
Mexico, which has a third of our population,
had twenty thousand.
Canada has seven thousand, has a third of our-- or one-eighth of our
population. In Europe, they've had a hundred
and thirty-five thousand
cases. So we're doing better at controlling
it than any coun-country in the world.
Unfortunately, in Pennsylvania, the governor, the only state
where the governor would not accept CDC EPI aid.
All the other states, we've been able to bring these epidem-
these outbreaks to a
quick halt.
In Texas, in Kansas, South Carolina,
Virginia. I think the last case in Virginia
was maybe
sixty, seventy days ago.
And all the other states where there's been outbreaks,
we've been able to bring it
quickly to an end. I'm confident now, this
week, we finally got the request from
Pennsylvania.
They were politicizing the outbreak there. They didn't want our aid.
They told us that they didn't want help from the Trump administration.
The people of Pennsylvania suffered.
Now they've asked us to come in and help them, and we're gonna do that,
and I'm
confident that we'll bring that outbreak
to a quick close.
That's all we have time for today. Thank you, press.
Okay.
Thank you.
