Menstrual Cycle Days 1–12: Period, Uterine Lining and Repair
Day one. The menstrual cycle begins. The thick
lining of the uterus starts shedding, creating
the first flow of the period. Day two. This
is the heaviest day. The uterus contracts more
strongly, releasing the built-up tissue. Day
three to four. The flow begins to lighten as
the lining becomes thinner. Day four. The period
is becoming lighter as the uterus starts healing
internally. Day five. The period comes to an
end. The body begins preparing for the next
cycle. Day six. Repair begins. New cells start
forming, and estrogen levels slowly rise. Day
seven. A fresh lining begins to grow inside
the uterus. Day eight to twelve. The uterine
lining becomes stronger and thicker, preparing
for ovulation.
