Soon all Dutch people will receive a brochure at home titled“ Prepare

for an Emergency,” for example if there is

no electricity or water or internet.

The goal is for people to start thinking in advance about what they should do in

such emergency situations.

This government commercial is shown on TV about what happens if the power goes out

not only in your home,

but in the entire city or even in the whole region.

That is why the government advises having an emergency kit at home so you can rely

on yourself for at least three days.

Such a kit contains a sufficient amount of water and long- lasting food such as

biscuits, nuts, and canned food,

and a battery- powered radio

so you can know what is happening,

and also cash, because paying by card may not work.

And besides the emergency kit, people should also think in

advance about who can help them, for example if someone needs help at home.

In Valkenburg they noticed that such preparation is necessary,

because a few years ago, they faced very heavy rainfall there,

and these old clips show that everything was flooded with water all of a sudden,

and most people were not prepared for that.

The mayor of Valkenburg was present there,

so he knows how important it is to have an emergency kit at home.

That may seem exaggerated,

but in fact it is very useful at the very moment when a crisis or disaster occurs,

then you will be in dire need of it.

The government does not solve all problems for you,

you will have to do part of that yourself, and you must also prepare to help others.

That is why there are now special training sessions there,

people learn how they can help others in emergencies.
