Discussion on Luis Robert Jr.'s Future
And this is something that literally this morning
if you were to ask me this morning
at eight o'clock about Luis Robert Jr.
for next year, I would have said,
come on, pay him his two million and
let him on his way.
And as I was thinking this through
as to why I'm watching Ewing in left field
or Benj even in left field,
it hit me that maybe there is a path
next year for Robert Jr. being back with this team,
which might not be the worst thing.
It's extra 18 million
because you have to pay him two million to go away anyway.
So extra 18 million,
look at the other options that are out there as a fourth outfielder.
That's what it would be.
Fourth outfielder slash DH with his potential.
I am open to the idea of having Robert Jr.
in center, not every day, but a little bit.
Ewing then in left, Soto as DH or Robert as DH,
Ewing in center and Soto in left field.
There are ways to work it out.
What are your thoughts about bringing Robert Jr. in?
It's hard because when you look at Robert,
you know, he's 29 years old.
And when he's been in the past, he was an all-star.
type of guys that you want to build on
and that's what they were trading for.
But he has had a history over the last three seasons of being injured.
And those are the guys that
really they're cause for concern to get you fired as a general manager
because you go all in on him.
Now in your situation so if you're talking about him
being the fourth outfitter like the Tyrone Taylor
but he plays a little bit more that type of situation
I'd be OK with it.
It would still be an overpay.
I think you could probably get him for less
if you paid the buyout and then tried to re-sign him
for ten or twelve million bucks.
But to have him on the team
you know and you rotated it around a little bit
I wouldn't be against it.
Here's the thing if he has a good two months
then that answer might be obvious to you.
I still think you have to be really concerned about the injury history.
