Discussion on Family and White Supremacy
So I'm Asian, my dad is white, my mom is Chinese, and I
think my dad is a white supremacist.
And this is something I've come to realize over a really long
period of time, and I would say like for quite a while,
I was in denial about this. You know, I always thought like, "That's not
possible." Like there's no way my dad c- is a white supremacist
when my mom is literally not white and she's Chinese.
Like there's no way my dad views white people,
um, more favorably than other races
because-- simply because, like they're white.
And if I ever confronted him about this, he would
absolutely get very, very defensive.
And it's a little bit funny though, because I think a lot of people in my
immediate
family would definitely agree with the fact that he definitely has like
this viewpoint that white people are
superior to people of color. I think this is a real issue,
and a lot of people don't necessarily feel comfortable talking about
it, um, you know, because it's a family member.
Let me quickly define what I believe white supremacy to be.
I think white supremacy is when white people believe,
inherently believe they're superior to other races because they're white.
I think what a lot of people don't realize is that wh- when they think of
white supremacy, they immediately might think of,
I don't know, neo-Nazis,
Proud Boys, Donald Trump, MAGA, all of that.
Right? But you don't have to like any of those
things, and
you don't have to be, um, a part of any of those things,
and you can still
be a white supremacist. My dad is that.
He does not associate with any of those groups, and he openly condemns
them, and yet it's strikingly clear to me that
he still is a white supremacist, and he believes he's superior to other
races because he's a white man.
