Illegal Voting Prosecution Announcement
Let me be unmistakably clear.
Illegal voting in our federal elections is a crime.
Falsely claiming US citizenship is a crime.
And both will be prosecuted every single time in
this district.
Federal elections belong to American citizens, period.
Anyone who is not a citizen and who chooses to cast a ballot
or claim citizenship falsely is breaking the law.
We cannot and will not allow that to stand.
When individuals intentionally violate the rules that
safeguard our democracy,
then that weakens every lawful vote cast by our great
citizens.
Over the past week, six defendants by my office were indicted
and another charged by criminal complaint.
Arrests have already been executed.
As of this morning, we got the last individual,
an illegal from
Mexico.
The announced charges include voting by an alien in a federal election,
falsely claiming US citizenship to register to vote,
as well as making false statements in naturalization applications.
Here are some of the facts. Several defendants knowingly and
deliberately lied on voter registration forms, provisional
voter affidavits,
and even driver's license applications by falsely claiming
to be, in fact, US citizens.
Multiple, multiple defendants unlawfully cast
ballots in the
November 2024 election.
One defendant, Defendant Alba, who is an illegal alien from Mexico,
who was previously deported
and a convicted felon for passport fraud, yes,
previously a convicted felon, voted illegally in the 2024
election and also lied on a federal
form. And in other cases, even when provisional
ballots were ultimately rejected, the act of casting them were still
unlawful under Texas and federal law.
This conduct is not a misunderstanding.
It is not a paperwork error.
It is a deliberate decision to engage in criminal
conduct that targets the foundation of our
republic
