England Fan's Experience at World Cup in Mexico
I think I speak on behalf of 99% of England fans when I want to say thank you.
I know that my experience is one that is shared by a lot of the England fans who travelled
here to Mexico City to watch that incredible game in the Azteca, but I also want to say
a personal thanks to the people of Mexico.
I was admittedly a little apprehensive about coming here to Mexico City.
I feel as though there's a lot of negative talk about Mexico, but the kindness of the
people here has been so disarming, and it's really what the World Cup is all about.
To me, I'm 25.
This is the first World Cup I've ever covered.
I haven't travelled all that much to watch football abroad, and it says a lot about a
place when you trust strangers in the street.
to electrocute you for fun.
¡Doces!
We played football together in the streets of Mexico City.
I had Colombians throw me up in the air because I was wearing a Mexico shirt and I was from England.
It was so much fun.
And those people, by the way, very, very helpful because all my possessions came out of my pockets.
They all put their flashlights on, helped me find my AirPods and my AirPod case, my charger, my wallet.
And I found it all.
They were incredibly kind and that is a personification of the kindness of the people here.
Absolutely everyone has made an effort to try and speak to me, even though I only speak un poco espanol.
But it's not just me who's felt this way.
Everyone I've spoken to all of the England fans I've spoken to have echoed the same sentiment. They felt absolutely loved before the match
Utterly hated during it which is how it should be by the way, and they're nothing but welcome again afterwards
The game obviously was incredible, but it was the atmosphere that really made it people when I left the press box
I saw people swapping shirts. I saw England fans swapping shirts with Mexico fans
I even saw one guy a guy in a Mexico shirt offer to film two people singing Wonderwall
He had no reason to do that other than to create that special memory for those two guys every video
I've posted has had such a positive reception people in the comments from Mexico saying welcome to Mexico
laughing at me getting the getting electrocuted and
everyone has just been so positive and so kind and it's really appreciated and
I feel like there's a misconception about Mexico and about the people of
Mexico. The atmosphere and the warmth of the people here is what makes Latin
America so special. It's what makes the World Cup so special because you come to
these places and you experience these different cultures. It's what the World
Cup is all about like I said. So thank you Mexico, thank you to the people of
Mexico City and thank you to all of my new Mexican followers who have enjoyed
my content at this World Cup. If anyone from the FA is watching this, the English
FA, please invite them to Wembley for another fantastic football match.
Hopefully the English can return the favour and be equally as hospitable.
