Baseball Pitch Analysis and Strategy
All right, so he walks to the plate.
He's just walked the bases loaded, and he's done it with a bunch of breaking
balls that he's not throwing for strikes.
So I'm not really honoring it, but I know he's got it. All right?
So here comes the first pitch, fastball. I'm sitting on it, and he throws it by me.
Woo! He threw it by me with my best knock.
All right? Pitch number two, I'm sitting there, I'm going,
"All right." Fastball
away, I took it, it was a good take. But you can see, it's off the
plate, but it's 102 miles an hour. So what am I thinking?
I gotta honor this heater, man. He's in a jam.
His best pitch is his fastball. And you know what?
So I'm sitting there and I'm thinking about it.
I'm in a 1-1 count.
Here comes another fastball, and it's right there, and I f-
it's right down
the middle. And he swings and fouls it off.
He swings and misses it. All right?
So now we're at
1 and 2 count,
and he's sitting there going, "All right.
1 and 2." He gets another fastball. Here comes the next pitch.
He fouls it off. Still 1 and 2. And he's
getting the ball by me. I'm starting to catch up a little bit,
but I got a, I got a
thought that he's still got that breaking ball.
So I'm still thinking I gotta honor that, but I gotta be on this 102.
Then the next pitch comes and he throws a breaking ball that's not
even close.
It's not even close. He takes it. It's a ball.
Look at that location. Nothing. So what am I doing as a hitter?
I step out. I've eliminated his breaking pitch.
I'm in a 2-2 count. There's no way he's gonna trust
that breaking ball
after he's walked the bases loaded.
The 1 and 2 pitch was critical. I believe had he thrown
another fastball, you throw it up, you locate it differently, he may strike
him out. But now I'm sitting in a 2-2 count with a
guy who has
not thrown the breaking ball for strikes.
2 and 2, and here comes the fatal blow. Show me the pitch, guys.
Boom. The pitch is there. He hammers it past the second baseman up
the
middle, and now the game is over. And here's the pitches.
And here's how I see it. That pitch right there changed the
whole at bat.
If he'd have elevated and thrown that one he threw at 101 that I swung
and missed
at,
then he mighta got me out. But you throw that pitch right there to
take me
to a 2-2 count, I eliminate it, and that's, to me, that's why the game is
on.
