Analysis of Controversial Football Goal
Here was a situation
where Argentina scored a 2 1 goal against England. So what happened here was
that Spence challenged Messi for the ball and he actually got the ball first and
then got hurt and Messi got the ball and made an
assist and then Argentina scored.
So this is a very talked about
situation and people say this should have been a foul and therefore not a goal.
So when you look at the situation Spence got the ball first and
then you need to see if there was contact with Messi and there was
actually contact between his foot and Messi's studs. But how was the contact?
The contact occurred as Messi jumped over
his foot and then Spence actually raised his own foot against Messi's studs.
So this is not Messi's studs hitting Spence's foot.
It is Spence's foot hitting Messi's studs because he raised
his own foot against Messi's studs.
This is not a foul
by Messi and then Spence accidentally twisted his own ankle
and that's why he was injured. It is not because of Messi.
His opposite ankle was twisted as he made his tackle here and it
was not because of Messi.
So as Messi jumped over him no foul
was committed and then there was accidental contact made by Spence.
So this is normal football contact.
It is not a foul and the goal was correctly allowed here despite there
being contact between the players.
