Bar Kokhba Revolt and Roman Response
Meanwhile, the Jews were at it again, about to throw
yet another revolt.
Led by the proclaimed Messiah Bar Kokhba, he promised to retake
Judea by any means necessary.
He gathered his fanatical Jews, slaughtered the local Roman garrisons, and
retook Jerusalem for themselves.
When the local legions tried to restore peace, they were pushed back by half a
million rebel Jews.
Bar Kokhba purged Judea of all non-Jews, Romans and Christians
alike, along with their wives and children.
When news of the massacre reached the emperor,
Hadrian went mad.
He sailed for Judea, followed by twelve legions,
and started killing
every single Jew he found. No mercy was
showed, no quarter given. Hadrian would settle with nothing
less
than the complete destruction of Judea.
