Experiencing the Cross in Filming
How did you personally participate
in the cross of Jesus?
I knew it was going to be difficult. I was actually nervous about it.
I literally asked him to allow me to participate in it.
I said, "Lord, if there's any
way
that I could experience
a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of what you went through from the
arrest,
to the imprisonment,
to the sentencing, to the beating, to the scourging, to the
crucifixion,
please allow me to participate somehow." And he did not
disappoint. On day one,
filming a completely different scene,
uh, I, I had tripped at one point in the scene
where I was running on
sand with these big sandals that we wear,
and I fell headlong, and I jumped up, and I
landed with a flourish. And I was like, "Ta-da!" And everybody was like, "Yay."
And I was like, "Yeah." And then all of a sudden,
I felt this tight swath of pain
just cover my shoulder into my chest, and I thought, "Oh, that's
not normal." And I went and got it checked out, and, uh,
it's my right shoulder. It turns out I had separated my AC joint
from my clavicle. And the doctor's like, "This is gonna hurt for
a few months." I said, "I'm sorry, months?" He said, "Yeah."
And I thought about it, and I'm like, "Oh, that's the shoulder I'm gonna be
carrying the cross on. Okay, you got my message. All right.
Thank you, I think." And I'm like, "Uh, well, can it
get worse?" It could get worse. It got worse.
But I had that, and when, when we put ...
When I started carrying it, it was like, oh, I was aware of it the whole time,
and it, and it lasted throughout filming.
And the thing that I prayed for and the thing that I asked for, uh,
he gave me. He, he allowed me to participate in,
and, uh,
and I wouldn't have it any other way.
