Behind the Scenes of Dark Knight Rises

When has Christopher Nolan been the most Christopher Nolan in your presence?

I actually have a story about this one.

So we're filming Dark Knight Rises

and something very, very unusual for a Christopher Nolan movie,

the set had been built backwards.

And so we'd choreographed a huge fight

to a set that we then had to revise.

And the camera was misbehaving that day.

And so there was all these just kind of unexpected stressors on the day.

And I was 27, 28 years old.

There's a big silence in the room and I just couldn't let it lie.

You know, I was just like,

what's Rick Moranis' character's name in Spaceballs?

I can't breathe in this thing.

And no one said anything.

I'm like, because like I just, I just, it can't come to me.

And of course we don't have phones on set.

I'm like, I just can't think of it. Can anybody think about what it is?

Dead silence. And then it was like, okay, we're ready to roll again.

I was just like, never speak again on set ever.

So anyway, so I'm just like, that was so dumb.

I just need to learn how to sit in silence.

So anyway, same thing happens in the afternoon.

There's this uncomfortable pause and I'm like, well, it's not going to be me.

Not going to be me.

And then one of the crew members goes,

Annie, you know, I've been thinking about it all day and I can't think about what Rick Moranis' name is.

And somebody else goes, me too.

And I just, it's on the tip of my tongue. And

we start to have like a little cacophony of like, what is his name?

And finally Chris goes, oh, it was Dark Helmet. Can we shoot?

Make way for Dark Helmet.

All rise in the presence of Dark Helmet.

That's great.
