Cardiac Screening for COVID-19 Vaccine Recipients
All COVID-19 vaccinated individuals should
undergo a cardiac screening to ensure that there
is no subclinical heart damage. We just published
a peer-reviewed paper, and we found that approximately
per dose, about one to 3% do suffer
a form of heart damage. That means millions and
millions of people across the globe, uh, have this
form of heart inflammation and possibly cardiac
scarring that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
And so subclinical myopericarditis is not obvious, as, as you'll see in
the figure here right next to me. So you may have some effort
intolerance. So you exercise, and you're more tired than
usual. Uh, you might have some palpitations, and you
may have some slight chest pain. Uh, but most
concerningly is the very first manifestation of this syndrome
can be sudden cardiac arrest or sudden death.
And so it's very important to find out who has
incurred this heart damage, this silent heart damage, and
fix it and prevent the sudden death from occurring.
And so in our paper, we outline a
diagnostic and management approach to this
silent heart damage in the best attempt to prevent sudden cardiac
arrest among vaccine recipients.
And so this includes many things. It includes imaging first to
detect if there's any scarring or inflammation in the heart,
MRIs, ECGs, as well as serial biomarker
testing. So, so looking for BNP, troponin
elevations. Is it improving over time?
And if, if there is a detection of this
subclinical
myocarditis, then it's recommended to abstain from
physical
activity until these markers normalize.
