Analysis of Vietnam War Corruption
The actual reason why the Vietnam War was being
lost, it was literally corruption.
So what happened in Vietnam is the United States from
1965 to '72 had air
power blasting North Vietnam, but that air power
was having no effect on winning the war
because we have North Vietnam guerrillas going
into the villages in South Vietnam, and the
local villagers welcomed the VC in their village
because the village leaders were taking
two-thirds of the rice crop. And if you decide that
that's the way your government is gonna work,
you're vulnerable to guerrilla
warfare because this thing we call communism, it's not about reading a little
red book or Lenin or Mao. It's about food.
It's about rice in this case. It's about do
you get the benefits of your labor?
And guerrillas, they were making a deal, and the deal was this:
"We're gonna shoot the leaders of your village, and we're going to put in
power somebody we're gonna call a communist." And what's the communist gonna
do? They're gonna let you keep your rice.
That is how the guerrilla campaign was
winning the hearts and minds of the southern population in
South
Vietnam. Well, we finally figured that out, and the South
Vietnamese government, with our pressure, changed their policy.
And guess what happened to the guerrilla campaign?
It went out of business like that.
Yes.
Now, North Vietnam realizes the guerrilla
campaign is
over, and the North Vietnamese launch all
13 of their regular army divisions against the South.
And at first, our air force actually does a good job of
beating back
this regular army, but it's too late because the public,
after
eight solid years of nothing but body
bags coming back from Vietnam, the American people are jaded with
the war. Even success isn't good enough anymore.
So eventually, the Congress in the United States pulls
the
plug in 1974 'cause war is not just about
military action. You can have the best bombs hit
all the targets and lose the war.
Yes.
And it's because of the gap with politics.
If you don't understand the connection between the military
action and the politics of the problem, you're gonna lose, and you're
gonna lose big time
