A Claim Linking Iran’s Lion and Sun Flag to Ali’s Titles

Lion, sun, and sword.

These days some intellectuals really show it off saying,“ This is ours,

it was on Iran’s former flag,” and they do not know its story.

Sit down, I will tell you.

Shah Ismail Safavi, the founder of the Shia sect,

ordered his grand vizier,“ I would like the titles of Ali ibn Abi Talib to be on

Iran’s flag.” And he said,“ Asadullah, the Lion of God.”

“ Shamsullah, God’s shining sun, and Saifullah, God’s sharp sword.” “ Ali, Ali,

Ali should be on Iran’s flag, so some people do not come and say,‘ Ali who?

Islam what? Where did these come from…’

This too belongs to our Honorable Ali. Stay awake, Ali,

so sleep does not overtake you. Ya Ali madad.”
