Critique of F1 Madrid Race Layout
F1's first race at the Madrid was rubbish, but it didn't need to be.
A lack of overtaking and not much action on Sunday, this
is exactly what F1
drivers were warning would happen ahead of the weekend.
But the drivers weren't properly consulted about this layout, even though it
was obvious the minute this layout was revealed there
was not going to be much
overtaking at this track. It's a really cool challenge over a single
lap, but
it's not a layout built for good racing.
There were warning signs given by the drivers, and even event
ambassador Carlos Sainz had some suggestions of what to tweak, but
that wasn't done for the first race here.
It's a major missed opportunity. This circuit started with a blank sheet of
paper. They really could have done anything,
and they came up with this.
Major changes are needed given it has a 10-year contract on the
calendar, because I don't know about you, but I really don't want to sit through
another race with this layout.
