Qatar's Financial Support for Hamas
Everyone knows about the relationship between the Qataris and Hamas.
In fact, when Jordan expelled Hamas, they were shopping around for,
for a new base.
Yeah.
And Qatar offered their spot, and the, actually, Hamas didn't take them up on
it. They went to Syria instead, but they maintained a connection.
In 2012, the emir of Qatar at the time was the first foreign head of
state to travel to Hamas-controlled Gaza, and at the time, they pledged
400 million in aid. By October 2023, that
had reached upwards of 1.8 billion, and that's just the aid that we know
about. It's very clear to Israeli and American intelligence that
without the financial aid from Qatar, October 7th
would've been very difficult to pull off.
Qatar was protecting a, a number of Hamas figures.
In fact, Haniyeh, who was the chairman of the political bureau
of Hamas,
lived there very comfortably for a number of years, uh, amassed a lot of wealth.
And at his funeral in July 2024, the emir of Qatar was
present in mourning. So it's, it's a very deep relationship they have
with
Hamas.
