Did you know that if you crush eggshells and apply them directly to your plants, you're actually not fertilizing your garden at all? Even though many people do it, the calcium in eggshells is insoluble. It's in the form of calcium carbonate, which plants simply can't absorb or use efficiently.
To make that calcium usable, you need to crush the eggshells as finely as possible and mix them with lemon juice or vinegar. Why? Because these liquids are acidic, and their low pH helps break down the calcium carbonate, turning it into calcium citrate,
a soluble form that plants can actually absorb. During this reaction, you'll see a fizzy bubbling effect. That's carbon dioxide being released as the calcium dissolves. Once you've mixed it, let the solution sit undisturbed for at least 12 full hours. After that, strain out the solids completely and dilute the liquid
thoroughly in about two liters of water. Now you can pour it at the base of your plants or spray it gently onto the leaves. You'll be giving your plants a powerful dose of soluble available calcium, helping them grow stronger, resist stress, and produce even better fruits and
vegetables.
