Concerns Over Political Leadership and Vigilance
We're living in the darkest moment
that I've experienced on this planet.
Who ever thought America could turn like this?
Who ever thought that a maniac like this would be President
of the United States-
Boo
... and dismantle- Wait, wait. No, no. No, I don't need to applaud. I want...
This is something for us to really communicate.
Dismantle all the good things.
America's never been a perfect place, but it has a perfect ideal that it's
moving towards, and always has, and it's been self-corrective.
First day, this guy dismantled almost everything that
was good
about the US government and the, and the US people.
How is this even possible? Because we went to sleep.
We went to sleep. Wait, wait.
We went to sleep.
We didn't care.
We didn't vote. We didn't really listen.
You know, of course, I didn't vote for this guy,
but I didn't do enough work
to skillfully convince people around me,
close to me, not close to me,
that this was insane to elect this person as President of
United States.
So we all have to take responsibility for this, but how quickly, this
was in weeks, he had dismantled
America.
I was just in Dachau.
I was sh- working in, in Munich, and I had been in Dachau
45 years ago. I was working on a, on a play
about two, two gay guys in, in Dachau, an kind of
amazing play.
And, um,
I visited again, and it, the,
the exhibition aspect of Dachau, the concentration camp, had
changed. It wasn't about piles of shoes
and eyeglasses and teeth
and hats,
of all the millions of people who had been murdered.
It, it... What struck me now is they, they had,
they showed the, the process since the 1930s,
the transformation of German society and German government,
and how quickly it happened there.
Good people turned into monsters.
And I saw this process in the US. We were talking about this.
He's b- actually more optimistic than I am about
what's going on in the US.
Far more optimistic.
But you see how quickly
our world can be taken from us
if we fall asleep, and we have to see the cues.
We have to see the cues. This, this,
this dictatorship of the monsters,
how quickly it happens. We have to be vigilant.
We can't sit back and go, "Ah, life is good. I'm fine.
You know, I've got food. I got money, blah, blah. I got my house.
I got another car. I'm thinking about this. I'm okay.
I know he's a bad guy, but it's okay." But it's not okay.
It's not okay. It's never okay.
