Israel's Influence in North Africa
Israel's connection to what happened in Souta.
People have asked me to talk about this.
In May 2019, Benjamin Netanyahu's son Yair posted this.
Dear Arabs and Muslims, Want to free occupied Arab Islamic lands?
Here's a good start.
He attached a map of Souta and Malilla.
Then he followed up.
Let's make a deal.
We won't fund NGOs in your country
calling you to give away Souta and Malilla
and you will stop funding NGOs in our country
that call us to give away Judea and Samaria.
Fast forward to 2026.
In March, Michael Rubin, an American Jewish man,
published two pieces calling on Morocco to launch
a new Green March into Souta and Malilla.
Unarmed civilians, bulldozers, raised the Moroccan flag.
He said NATO's mutual defense clause wouldn't even apply.
In April, Amin Ayyub wrote in Yanet,
one of Israel's biggest news sites,
Israel should help Morocco claim the enclaves.
It would punish Spain for obstructing American and Israeli priorities,
and it would be a strategic investment
in the partner that controls one of
the world's most vital maritime choke points,
Strait of Gibraltar.
On July 30th, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon,
posted Spain should explain to the world why
it maintains colonial enclaves in Africa.
The Israeli embassy in Spain had to
distance itself the next day.
Then, on August 1st, a Times of Israel blog
declared Spain had already lost Souta,
and urged Morocco to finish the job,
his words, with Israeli and American backing under the Abraham Accords.
So why does this benefit Israel?
This is what they said in writing, not me.
Control of the southern shore of the Strait of Gibraltar.
A reliable military partner instead of a hostile Spanish government
that criticizes Israel. Recognized Palestine and blocked U.S. bases.
Punishment for obstruction.
Deeper Abraham Accords cooperation.
Permanent surveillance and influence over one of the planet's key shipping lanes
without needing Spain's permission.
So how did the surge happen?
It came from hashtag Haraga.
Haraga means irregular migrants who burn their documents
so they can't be sent back.
It's amazing they even have a word for that.
For weeks a coordinated campaign ran across TikTok,
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Videos of previous successful crossings, maps, meeting points, equipment lists.
Claims that a Spanish court ruling meant
that the border was now open
and no one could be returned.
The campaign peaked on and around Morocco's throne day.
Tens of thousands moved.
Border controls on the Moroccan side were reported as unusually light.
You can go on TikTok and type in Haraga
and see for yourself.
I thought illegal activity was banned on these platforms.
