Critique of Nordic Model and Global Exploitation
No, you don't get it. We don't need communism.
We need social democracy like in Sweden, is what I would say if I
didn't give a fuck about the Global South.
I received a bunch of comments asking me, "But what's wrong with the Nordic model?"
And I need everyone to understand that the Nordic model, or in other words,
capitalist reform, is a parasitic scam that can only
survive through the exploitation of the Global South.
In his book, Unequal Exchange: Past, Present, and Future, Torkil Lauesen
examines this very thing. Did you know that
when Swedish company H&M sells a
five dollar shirt, the government gets seventy-nine cents in
taxes, while
the Bangladeshi worker who made it with their bare hands is paid just ten
cents? That's eighty-seven dollars a month,
while Swedish welfare
recipients get up to twenty-three hundred a month.
Literal welfare funded by slave labor.
Wages aren't low because the Global South is less productive. Are you kidding me?
They often produce more than Northern workers.
But neoliberalism artificially depresses wages through
mandated economic adjustments, IMF debt traps,
dollarization, right? This is precisely why your dollar is worth
more in the Global South, creating a wage gap of up to fifty to
one because, like Michael Parenti said, "These countries aren't underdeveloped,
they're overexploited." Jason Hickel's twenty twenty-four study also
showed that the Global North appropriates nine hundred six billion
hours of labor from the Global South while returning only eighty billion,
an eleven to one transfer that directly funds these welfare states.
And don't get me wrong, we are also exploited,
but nowhere near the Southern
worker. In fact, once you make over four dollars an hour,
you become a
net consumer of this exploited value rather than a net
producer. Because true international solidarity
is about realizing
that our lifestyles rely on the exploitation of the Global South.
As our Gary Emmanuel warned, when liberation movements threaten the
Northern
workers' comfort, they unite with the capitalists to oppose
the
Global South. This is why social democrats called every
Global South leader an
authoritarian, a radical terrorist, because they threaten their
class interests. These social democracies pacify labor
movements
by bribing them with imperialist scraps to elongate
capitalism. In Reform or Revolution, Rosa Luxemburg emphasizes
that economic exploitation is not a law.
No law forces you to work. So then how can legal reforms
dismantle a system they don't even enforce? They can't.
A movement that does not address imperialism is not the left or
anti-capitalist. It's just peak liberalism.
