Trump's Beef Import Controversy
You might wanna just double check where you're getting your steak from for the
next
few months, because Donald Trump just announced
that we're gonna be importing tons
of beef from Argentina to, quote-unquote, "lower costs."
Except the big problem here is that this is the same beef that China
rejected earlier this year because it was found to be laced with a chemical
called
chloramphenicol. Just so everybody's aware,
chloramphenicol is
banned in both the US and the EU because it can cause, quote,
"Severe, irreversible, and often fatal aplastic anemia in
humans." And on top of that, it is a known cancer-causing carcinogen,
and also has been shown to cause genetic damage.
Not ideal, to say the least. And when asked about it on Air Force One,
here's what Trump had to say.
Question is, what do you have to say to US farmers who
feel that the deal
is benefiting Argentina more than it is them as they are a-
Look, look
... top importer.
Argentina is fighting for its life, young lady.
You don't know anything about it.
They're fighting for their life. Nothing's benefiting Argentina.
They're fighting for their life. You understand what that means?
They have no money. They have no anything. They're fighting so hard to survive.
If I can help them survive in a free world, I happen to like
the president of Argentina. I think he's trying to do the best he can.
But don't make it sound like they're doing great. They are dying, all right?
They're dying. Meanwhile, in the United States, over
160,000 farms have closed between 2017 and
2024, and on average, 77 cattle
producers are going out of business every single day.
Another win for the golden age.
