Lula's Election Win and the Brazilian Left
You have no idea how happy
I am for Brazil right
now, and you should be
too because it should be a glimpse
at what your country could look like if the
people within it actually gave a
damn and actually believed in their voice.
Because in Brazil's case, Brazil's left-wing President Lula
has just won the re-election, defeating the far right
in Brazil. You
see, just yesterday, Brazil
voted to give the left-wing
candidate, Lula da Silva,
a historic fourth non-consecutive
presidential term.
You guys need to understand this
is huge for
Brazil, not just because Lula won with 4.4
million votes, but
because this
is a huge comeback for the
Brazilian left. Lula
is now the first candidate
since Brazil's
return
to democracy to win a
presidential runoff after losing
the first round.
Furthermore, upon research,
I found out that Lula is a
former trade union leader whose
Workers' Party campaigns on
reducing poverty and inequality,
protecting workers' rights, and expanding
social programs through strengthening
public services.
In a world where the far right are dominating
and ruining lives, it's
so refreshing to see that there are people who are willing to fight
to make sure that common sense and
goodness triumph throughout all the
darkness. Big up Brazil. Big up Brazil.
