Understanding Demons in the Book of Enoch

Most people think demons are fallen angels.

That idea doesn't actually come from the Bible. It comes from tradition.

The Book of Enoch presents a far more unsettling

explanation.

According to Enoch, when the Watchers descended

and interfered with

humanity, they created hybrid beings,

giants that were violent, unstable, and destructive.

When these hybrids were eventually destroyed,

their physical bodies

died, but their spirits did not.

Enoch says those spirits remained on Earth,

disembodied and restless, unable to return to heaven

and unable to exist as humans.

That is the origin of demons in Enoch's

account—not angels that rebelled, but the

leftover consciousness of beings that were never meant to exist.

They seek influence, attachment, and disruption because

they don't belong anywhere.

This reframes the entire narrative.

Demons aren't cosmic rebels, they're remnants,

and this is exactly why the Book of Enoch was pushed aside.
