Mohamed Morsi's Legacy: Democracy and Freedom in the Arab World

The martyred President Dr.

Mohamed Morsi is undoubtedly today

a symbol.

A symbol for all Arab youth

who seek liberation from

slavery, regardless of their ideological affiliation.

Dr. Mohamed Morsi represents

the will of the Arab people. The Arab nation that

rose up seeks good governance and dignity. It seeks

equality, freedom, and transparency.

By the way,

Dr. Mohamed Morsi did not win the

presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt

with 90%, 95%, or even 60%.

He won with approximately 52%, a democratic result.

This is how democracies work around the world.

These are also the natural percentages in

Turkey. Erdoğan, for example, won

52%, despite all the talk. This is how democracy works.

The elimination of President

Mohamed Morsi came in a new attempt

to eliminate the cause of the

Egyptian people who rose up and

are still out there.

Therefore, when we deal with

Mohamed Morsi, we should not

treat him as one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Do not deal with him by the standards that

He embodies it, whether he belongs

to the Muslim Brotherhood or not.

He represents a cause and a slogan. I also hope that

specifically, the Islamic current, which is in fact today this

project, embodies the driving

force in the Arab world,

whether we like it or

not. Look at this huge difference

between Dr. Mohamed Morsi,

a legitimate president

elected in democratic

elections that no one doubts. He was overthrown and put in

prison, yet he and the Supreme Guide

of the Muslim Brotherhood, Dr.

Mohamed Badie, may God free them.

What did he say?

Our peacefulness is stronger than bullets.

They spared Egyptians' blood and prevented a descent into

sedition and internal conflict.

By the way, if the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to

go in this direction,

you would find great powers supplying them

with arms and equipment. When a martyr ascends,

martyrdom gives life. It does not give life to the martyr

only in the religious sense, but gives life to the idea

for which the martyr was martyred.

The blood of martyrs gives the cause

its splendor, brilliance, beauty, and strength.

It is the blood of martyrs.

This blood is what nourishes the cause

and nourishes the idea, helping it grow. So yes,

with martyr Mohammed Morsi's ascension,

this idea rises. There is no doubt that Mohammed

Morsi's Islamic identity and his

affiliation with the Islamic project,

although it is a moderate Islamic project

that speaks with others,

deals with others, and opens up to

others. There is no doubt that it is

still difficult for the West to deal with a figure

coming from the Islamic movement by the same

standard, had he come, for example,

from a secular movement

or a liberal one, or another, despite his prominence.
