Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway Discuss Movies
And when you're gonna get something shot at your face, you're like-
... prepared. What are you...
Nothing good.
No, I just, I shouldn't be-
Shit
... I shouldn't be allowed in public
sometimes. I've rotten sections of my mind.
You know, when you're gonna get something shot in
your face-
... you need to be focused.
You only get one shot. Do not miss your chance to blow.
Um, um, so-
Hi, I'm Dakota Johnson.
And I'm Anne Hathaway, and this is Picture Day with Betches.
Aw.
Oh my God. I can't take it. Princess Diaries.
Yeah.
When you were covering your blowout.
Yeah.
I know.
I have found out-
Mm-hmm
... in recent days that Dakota is a diehard Princess Diaries fan.
Diehard.
And I had no idea. We made it through all the filming without
it coming up.
So why don't you talk us through what this scene is?
This is the scene when Annie goes back to school after
getting her
makeover. She gets her hair blown out, and her eyebrows tweezed, and
her nails done. Did that happen in the make- in the makeover?
Mm-hmm. There's, there's like a foot, like, tapping to the beat moment-
Yeah
... where they're trying to put the nail
polish on.
Right, right, right, right, right. You- ...
wanted to hide your blowout because before this everyone knew you as having really
curly hair. And then they're like, "You know the deal.
No hats at school."
Yeah.
And she takes it off and she's a supermodel.
And it's like slow mo, and everyone's like...
And then Heather Matarazzo says one of my favorite lines ever, which is like,
"Okay," Voltaire-
Voltaire
... "hair. I personally would like to learn about
Voltaire."
Yeah.
It's like one of my favorite line readings.
And then do you know what this is?
Jeremy Strong wearing the same hat.
Right? So he wore that to the Golden Globes,
and then somebody called me and was
like, "Oh my gosh, Jeremy's wearing your hat from Princess
Diaries." I made a
post saying that it, it didn't bother me that he'd borrowed it,
I just didn't
realize he was gonna dye it.
It's really funny.
Oh. This was day one of my period on set.
You really need to see a doctor.
This is me covered in blood
on set.
You were amazing because I heard about it afterwards.
Like, you, like, became a legend on set
that day because there were so many
paparazzi, and you were in the middle of, like, a really crowded part of New
York. And everybody was like you were so locked in, and you
were just focused
on your performance. And you also had to have blood shot into
your face from, like,
an air cannon.
Yeah. And we only had one take really.
And the way the blood splattered I thought was so beautiful. It was crazy.
There were so many paparazzi, which is so distracting.
Yeah.
But because I think the pressure was on, I just was like
very tunnel vision.
Aw.
Annie.
Come on.
It's you.
That is 16-year-old me.
This is incredibly chic.
Thank you so much. I'm a junior in high school,
and I'm on the red carpet
for the first time ever, and I'd never had to smile so much.
And you can see that my cheeks got a little tired.
I remember tr- trying to smile and, like, it was starting to do, like, like
this. And I would like to thank the press
representative from Fox, who when I
showed up in my, like, knee-length black shapeless Banana
Republic
skirt, looked at me and said, "Hold on one second.
Trina Turk, can you send over trousers?
Thank you so much."
Fabulous.
Oh my God.
Aw.
That's me.
Clearly I cut my own bangs, like I still do.
My brother's stoned.
Is that his name?
I don't know where this was. No, Jes- That's Jesse, but-
Oh.
This was in his stoner era, and you can really tell. I
was seven years old.
Tin Cup, great movie. My dad is wearing some sort of sequin vest under
a velvet blazer. Very cool. He actually looks rad.
You're so blonde.
I'm a blonde.
Like, always?
I'm a natural blonde.
Oh my gosh.
I know.
When did you discover that you're-
I don't identify
... you should secretly be a brunette?
When I dyed my hair for the first Fifty Shades movie.
Mm-hmm. And then you just were like, "This is right."
Yeah.
Dakota, what do you think of my outfit?
I know that there is something similar that I've done, and so I
have nothing bad to say. Only, like, at the time, this was rad.
Thank you.
And I like your colors, your white shoes.
This is a wild look. But it's really great, and I feel like,
what is this, like 2004?
You nailed it. Yes.
I think that this just is perfect.
I was working with a stylist at the time, and clearly she let me guide this
session. Those are the shoes that I wore for two years straight.
Those were, like, my good heels. And that is the Ella Enchanted premiere.
I'm just very proud that I'm in, like, an outfit that represents the
choices we were all making.
Yeah.
Like, all of the choices-
For sure
... that we were making in one outfit.
It's very hard to have an outfit that represents all of them, but this
is that.
I stand by it.
I stand in it.
Aw, I'm so nervous and little here.
Look at your mile-long legs.
Oh my gosh.
This is from the first time I hosted SNL, and I was in the cold
open, and I was wearing a wig. And then they'd, like,
rip off your clothes and your
wig, and you run to do the monologue, and my hair.
This will haunt me for the rest of my life, my bangs looking like that.
It's not that bad.
It's not great.
It's not like this, but it's not that bad. It's not that bad.
I look like I have fangs on my head.
Well, it, it's my favorite place in the world, SNL.
Aw.
I love being there. I love doing it. I love everyone that's there.
I think they're unbelievably talented. I think their work ethic is crazy.
I don't remember doing this the first time, but the last time I
was there they did,
like, a face mold on me, and they have every face mold
that they've ever
done. There's, like, Jim Carrey. There's everyone, and it
was just the coolest
thing in the world. Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thanks so much, guys
