MP Discusses Threats and Police Investigation
Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. Last week I got a f- telephone call from
Nottinghamshire police to tell me that I was on a kill
list of 100 MPs and former MPs and
VIPs. Now, I think, I strongly believe
that it took a leak to the
press before the police actually contacted me and
my colleagues sat here. So can the Home Secretary tell me when
she first became aware of this list?
Well, let me say to the, uh, honorable, uh, gentleman, uh,
I, I don't believe, uh, that, as I said in answer to previous
questions, that anything has, inappropriate has happened in
relation to the list. I'm not going to give him, uh, or
the allegations of, of the list. I'm not gonna give a running commentary on
intelligence discussions, but nothing has happened, uh, that is
inappropriate in my view. Uh, I will make sure that I, um, am
able to share more information with the House, uh, uh, as I, as I referenced in my
answer to Mr. Speaker earlier and the concerns that have been raised,
uh, about
who has knowledge of, uh, who those names are.
But this is an investigation that is led by the police.
I don't get a running, uh, commentary or an update myself.
It would be inappropriate for that to happen. They
are operationally independent.
They must go where the evidence takes them, and no politician should ever have a
directive hand, uh, in those proceedings.
