Expectations and Pressure in Sports
I'm going to win the World Cup.
How does things change
once winning becomes an expectation rather than an ambition?
You have to train with
your own resignation letter in your pocket.
And after that, your decisions are so free mentally. It's so nice.
Everyone assumes success compounds.
My experience is that expectations compound even faster.
When I arrived in Barcelona, I was appalled that 86, 87 didn't want me.
In that moment, I said, it's perfect.
What's interesting is that from the outside, the ambition doesn't change.
Just the pacing changes. I wake up in the morning, I say, Opa, do you miss it?
They say, no. Okay, good, let's go.
