Discussion on Technology Safety and Regulation
And I want to thank President Donald J.
Trump, uh, who is the only person on the planet who
could have assembled this
meeting today and held it here, and it was very timely and appropriate.
What was discussed today could be summarized i-i- in this way: We have to
strike the right balance here, the balance between the interests of the
American people in benefiting from the extraordinary advancements that are being
made with this new technology,
with the necessity of maintaining our edge over China and any other competitors
that might emerge around the globe, and that the superintelligence
companies ensure the safety of the products that they are
producing. They are fiercely dedicated to that,
and that was articulated
very well today in the meeting.
I can kind of summarize what I think we all signed today, um, which
is, right, it's the White House Accord on, on, um, on
developing this technology safely.
The basic idea is that we wanna give the American
people and our customers confidence that the technology works in
the way that we intend. Right? So every company is building something
that's a
little bit different. They don't have a one
set
of
standards for what is, what everyone should wanna
build. Um, people wanna do some different things,
but I think what we can all
agree on is that the American public and our customers
wanna know that what we're building is working in the way that we all intend.
So we drafted a set of, of principles and commitments around
building robust internal controls and detecting if there are any
issues with the technology, coupled with, uh, multiple
layers of, of auditing and controls, starting with
internal risk review, external auditors and evaluators, and
agreeing that we're gonna have all of our boards of directors independently
review the reports that come from the auditors.
I think these are good steps
forward. The idea isn't that this is the only thing that we will ever do.
It is that this is a start and an accord that the whole industry can
come
to, and I was very proud, uh, to have that discussion
with, uh, a number of our colleagues who I think
are running great companies.
Um, you know, it was sort of a, a historic conversation.
I don't think anything like this has come before and, um, I think this is a
meaningful step forward.
And they wanna do the right things.
These are people that love our country.
I can tell you that. There's a belief that
there should be tremendous
self-regulation.
Regulators. We regulate any stealing of his property.
We're damn good, too. But you can't be any geek off the street.
Gotta be handy with the steel, if you know what I mean. Earn your keep.
Regulators!
Mount up.
