Investing in Stocks vs. Consumer Goods
I trade a billion dollars of stock every day.
A billion dollars?
A billion dollars of stock every day.
Right, if McDonald's comes out with a new burger,
the stock's gonna go up.
Oh.
If somebody who's wearing Nikes does something stupid, stock's gonna go down.
I get it, I get it.
You know what I'm saying?
I get it.
Okay. So I mean, you think about it. What's your favorite phone?
Do you have an iPhone?
Yep.
Okay. So it's made by Apple. Apple trades on the stock market.
So imagine this, if you didn't buy... You...
Every time the new iPhone comes out, do you buy the new iPhone?
Yes.
Okay. If you didn't buy the new iPhone, but you bought a share of Apple stock,
right? You'd be making thousands and millions of dollars as opposed to just
having the new phone.
So I gotta buy the stock in an Apple?
You gotta buy the stock, not just the phone. So I'm,
I'm one of the...
I am an educator in the space of Wall Street.
Right.
So I try and get people to invest in stocks and not stuff.
So if you think about it, instead of buying the next pair of Nikes,
if you buy
shares of Nike, that's gonna go up.
The minute you buy a Nike pair of sneakers-
Shares or something
... it goes down in value. You buy an iPhone, it goes down in value.
You buy a Rolex, it goes down in value.
But if you buy the shares of the stock that makes that, it
may go up in value.
