Parenting and Hope in Difficult Times

How old was he at the time? He was three.

And so, listen, it's not good.

At first, it was just,

you know, at first it was just,

it's too hard to talk about, man.

Basically, they just said that it wasn't great.

And so we just took it day by day.

And my sisters, my mom, my dad, my parents, my wife's family,

they all pulled their kids out of school.

And we all moved.

And we lived at CHLA.

And we just had the best doctors.

And God, thank you, Jesus Christ, God.

I genuinely cannot begin to imagine

what it feels like in that moment when you think that you might

be... Yeah. Like, and so how as a parent, how do you and your wife,

how do you keep that courage, how do you keep that sense of trying

to think that we will get through this as a family?

It's weird, man. I'm not okay.

My wife, honestly, when this all started,

I became the strength to somehow pull us and lift us

and to be positive and to...

And when they got it out and the chemo was done and they said,

we did it, it's good, he's okay.

Fell I just I just fell and my wife picks me up now

It's funny, I know he's he's five years old,

you know And I say to him because he loves spider man we love spider man and

I always say to him Spider man is amazing.

Superman's amazing, but they're fake.

They're not real You're a superhero.

You're my hero my real superhero

And when I I want like, you know God it sounds so weird.

It's please sitting on your couch at home call

Just do it because you there's nothing better in the whole world when you give

that way that the universe gives right back to you and

There's there's there's hope and treatments

and there's medicines that haven't been discovered and will be discovered

because of you.

Because of you, and you think you're one little person who can't change,

but all of us can completely,

completely make that huge difference.

And if you do it,

and you save just one little person,

man, that's it. That's what life is. That's all it is.
