Billie Eilish's Veganism Controversy
Billie Eilish's rant about veganism reminded me how a lot of racist white
people
will hide behind their love of animals.
And I'm not saying that Billie Eilish is racist or anything,
but getting online and
talking about veganism and how you have to be a vegan
if you like animals and
all of these things, and being super, super extreme in your advocacy for animals
often does not extend to people, and it's really fucking weird.
Actually, I found that a lot of the people within my
community back home in
rural California that are really pro-animal
and do a lot of work with animal
shelters are probably some of the most racist people that I've met.
And it's true, you'll often hear racist white people
watch movies where an animal
dies and they'll be like, "That's so sad," and they'll be, like,
in tears.
And the second that it's, like, a person of color suffering, they just,
like, watch
the whole thing and don't have a single thought about it.
They'll be the first people in line to adopt a new puppy or a cat that they don't
necessarily have room for from the shelter,
but they would never be caught dead at
a protest, and they support big businesses
that actively harm people of color.
So to my fellow white people, if this is you,
you find yourself caring a lot about
animal welfare and not about, like, people and human welfare,
you have a lot of
work to do because trust me, this is a huge red flag and very bad
