Shooting Incident in Letcher County Court
September 14, 2025. Letcher County Court, Kentucky, USA.
Judge Mullins of Letcher County was chatting with a pastor
and the top officials of
the local community in his office.
Suddenly, Sheriff Mitch of Letcher County walked
into his office and told
Judge Mullins that he had something important he wanted to discuss with him
alone.
Subsequently, Judge Mullins ordered everyone in the
office to leave.
Since this video footage was from the surveillance system,
we also couldn't know
exactly what Judge Mullins and Sheriff Mickey discussed.
Just a few minutes into the conversation, Sheriff Mickey suddenly picked up his
phone and was about to call his daughter who was in high school.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to dial, Sheriff Mickey asked Judge Mullins
for permission to use his phone to make the call.
Taking the phone, Sheriff Mickey only entered the first
three digits of his
daughter's phone number and the phone call record appeared on the
screen.
The complete phone number of his daughter indicated that Judge Mullins must have
called her. Sheriff Mickey angrily pulled out his
sidearm, and at that moment,
Judge Mullins was so frightened that he didn't know what to do.
After a few more exchanges, Sheriff Mickey raised his gun
and shot at Judge
Mullins. The loud gunshot instantly alarmed
everyone in the court.
We could see that Sheriff Mickey walked out of the court like an ordinary person.
After learning that the chief judge of the court had been shot, the Kentucky Police
immediately dispatched all available police forces to capture the criminal.
Since the state police and county police often work together,
the State Police had
no suspicion as to why Sheriff Mickey was also present.
He returned to the court, and seeing the fully armed state police,
he put down his
sidearm and shouted, "I did it." The State Police turned around
and found that it
was Sheriff Mickey who had turned himself in. He was extremely shocked.
It took him a while to realize that he had been handcuffed.
Now let's take a look at the situation at that time through the police's law
enforcement recorder.
Probably not to put you in Letcher County Jail.
I mean-
Why?
Just probably because... I don't know though. I don't know
if that's happening.
I don't mind to be down there.
You don't mind to be down there?
They will put me in single cell.
Well, I mean, we'll talk about that, you know.
Since Sheriff Mickey was the sheriff of Letcher County,
the state police were
worried that putting Mickey in prison would be retaliated against by the
inmates,
so they decided not to send Mickey to prison temporarily.
Because, because you're just here from Letcher
County,
we would-
Thank you.
Put you at r- at risk by taking you down there.
They will put me in a single cell. I've seen it done with officials in the
past
before that's committed crimes, that they ...
I can be in protective custody down there in a single cell out front.
You feel safe in Letcher County jail?
I just hate to get in a vehicle with
... Where are you gonna take me to then, and who's going to take me?
I would take you.
Uh, we don't know that yet,
but you have to leave this courthouse
