Songwriting Influences and Personal Reflections
Alright, I have a theory about songwriting. Every song is influenced by music five years
before it. I could jump around with this theory, like Man in the Box by Alice in Chains has
some hair metal in it. And my song, Love Song for No One, off my debut album Room for Squares,
has gin blossoms in it. It's actually very 1996. And when I listen back to it, I get
1996 to my stomach because I didn't know that my song was that kind of antiquated by
the time I got around to playing it. But, you know, you'll know what I mean. It's still
nice, but that was me at Berklee College of Music in 97, making music that I heard in
94. So I do have these little tendrils, even though I'm a 2000s artist. This is one of
those songs that will prove I'm from the 90s. It's Love Song for No One. I hope I didn't
turn you away from wanting to hear it. It's great. It's the best. It's the best. It's
Love Song for No One on Life with me, John Mayer.
Oh,
after all the crushes,
all my wishful thinking was wrong.
I'm tired of being alone.
So hurry up and get
so tired of being alone.
So hurry up and get
get
searching on my days just to find you.
Not sure who I'm looking for.
When I see
to hide in my bedroom,
just to write
for no one.
