Critique of Canadian Healthcare System
Listen
Here's what I think of the Canadian healthcare system.
Three years ago today-
Listen
... Canada left my wife to die and rot in the Canadian healthcare system
when she was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer.
They left her with no hope.
They sent her a pamphlet on how she could kill herself on MAID in the mail.
Unbelievable
And they forgot about her.
This is horrible
Until at a last-minute decision, she chose to flee Canada
and come to the United
States to save her life when she was so close to death.
You must fight for your life.
We're so grateful to be here in the United States, to live in Texas, where she's
still fighting cancer, but here we are. We're sitting on top of the world.
Look, we- here we are.
Woo.
That's awesome.
You know, she still has the strength and stamina to hike two hours up to this
mountain peak, something that would never have happened had we
stayed in Canada.
She'd be dead. That's what they told her
was gonna happen.
Yep.
But death is not an option in the United States. The healthcare is superior.
Mm-hmm.
I can say that as a Canadian, it is absolutely superior-
Absolutely
... to Canadian healthcare in every which way.
"Oh, oh, but you're gonna pay so much money,
you're gonna go bankrupt." Well,
maybe, if you don't have good insurance. But you know what?
Even if you go broke, death is not an option.
You still fight.
No one's gonna tell you to go kill yourself.
Yeah.
This is evil, absolutely evil, and Canadians have made this their
culture-
He's right
... that it's normal and okay to just go kill yourself because
a doctor says that
there's no hope. Canadian doctors are so strained.
Some of them are just stupid.
Some of them...
Death.
They're not properly licensed.
Where's the death? Do you see death? I don't see death.
I see somebody fighting who just hiked two- two- two hours up a mountain peak
while she's still on some kind of chemo.
Now, we, we forgot water, so I don't know how we're getting down.
We might actually both die together.
It was all for nothing.
It's fine.
But Canadians, man, you're paying all that money for, for what?
For all this healthcare, so that way when you get cancer someday, you're, you
should... Th- th- the system's supposed to be there for you.
It's garbage.
Not to tell you to die.
It's garbage.
You know what the doctors tell me here? They tell me to live my life.
They tell me to go out and do things like this.
We're doing things.
They tell me that every day counts.
Nobody in N- in, and nobody in America has looked at me
and said, "You're gonna
die."
I think everybody has their story about how the Canadian healthcare system has
failed them. It's failed my family. It's failed me. It failed my daughter.
I made a video when I was in Calgary at the Stampede.
It totally failed my daughter. It's failing everybody.
And by the way, it is not free. We are paying for it exuberantly through our
taxes, and what's worse is when we need it, we actually don't get
it. I- in our moment of most pressing need,
when we are
sick, when we are hurt, when we are in a life-threatening situation, we
don't get the care that we deserve.
It's unacceptable, and I advocate for everybody,
just like this couple.
Advocate for yourself. Push every doctor in Canada that you see,
push them to give you the results that you need and the tests that you need,
and
if you don't get it, you have to look elsewhere.
Look around the world.
Many other countries around the world, their healthcare is way better than ours.
