Syrian Refugees in Uruguay: Protests and Returns to Syria

You probably don't think about Uruguay very much, but in 2014,

Uruguay took in around 40 refugees from Syria during the height of their

civil war. And do you wanna know what these refugees

did once Uruguay

gave them safety and security? Well, firstly, they complained

that they wanted to

go to Germany instead. Then they complained

that Uruguay's cost of living was

too high, even though they were being given free money, free housing,

free healthcare, and free education by Uruguay's taxpayers.

Then they protested in the center of Montevideo, saying that their

standard of living, which they were being given for free, was too low.

And finally, can you guess what they did?

Yep, some of them chose to go back to Syria,

a country they

apparently had to flee from because it was so dangerous.

Since then, Uruguay hasn't taken in one more Syrian

refugee. I think we should all be a little bit more

like Uruguay
