Reflections on Movie Deals and Quality
My mother had made,
whatever, $30,000 a year as a public school teacher
and my dad, you know, sometimes had a job.
And so all of a sudden, you know,
people are going to give you $300,000, $600,000, a million dollars.
They offered $6 million for Reindeer Games.
I was like, I don't need to read this fucking script.
Truly, that's the way I thought.
I was like, it would be irresponsible and crazy and like,
who the fuck would I be to turn something down like that?
And by the way,
the movie had a very good director in Charlize.
Darren was in it and everything.
But the point being, I really didn't understand
the cliche of like, you have to do good work
and believe that the money will follow that.
As soon as you start getting, you know,
there's a reason that you pay more than somebody else.
It's because like, you know, hey,
come play for a team full of scrubs,
you know, over here and, you know,
you're not going to win anything over there.
And that's kind of like it's even more extreme
because you're like it or not,
people will associate you with the quality of the movie that you do.
