Debate on Gun Rights and Trans Issues
Now that I'm getting back to debating and actually posting again, um, the
question that everyone's asking me, the most important question on everyone's
mind,
were my stats actually counting or not counting gang violence?
So just some background, Charlie was advocating for the
DOJ to strip gun rights from trans Americans
because in his eyes, there were too many mass shootings
perpetrated by trans individuals.
I pointed out that not only are there very few trans mass shooters,
there are also
very few compared to how rare trans people are
already. Essentially per capita, they're still twenty times
underrepresented.
So his question, counting or not counting gang violence,
was essentially
acknowledging that the Gun Violence Archive, where I get the stats
from, pulls from gang violence, which we're obviously not talking about,
so
we would have to accommodate the stats against that.
So my response would be, "Okay, great, I'll even say that
it's muddied. I'll concede that it's muddied,
but then you're using muddied stats
to clarify why trans people should have their guns rights taken away
from them. This is an indictment on you, not me.
I'm not the one making the positive claim, you are." There are a couple other
things that I wanted to mention in the debate that I obviously never got to,
which,
uh, another thing is something called a double
bind in debate terms.
It's essentially like a damned if you agree, damned if you disagree.
So the question that I wanted to pose him was, would taking away
guns from individuals reduce the amount of shootings?
And if he agrees, then obviously the conclusion you have to
come to is we have to
take guns away from everyone, and if he disagrees, then he proves that
he's essentially doing this just for spite,
not actually for any tangible results.
I was obviously prepared for him asking, "What is a woman?" because that's
something he often did when the conversation
was about trans individuals.
I wanted to flip it back on him and ask him, "What
is a woman?" because he doesn't
really give a coherent definition.
What they sort of always say is, uh, a human adult female,
but they don't really
clarify what female means, and there's a number of different ways you
can define
it. I wanted to point to a number of
different, uh, intersex conditions to
ask him if that qualifies you as a man or a woman.
I had a number of different examples, like, written on my phone
that we obviously
never got to. I don't know what his response
was gonna be, but I've seen Steven
Crowder give the argument that it's very similar to
saying that humans have ten, uh, fingers,
and if they don't have ten fingers, it doesn't mean that they're not human.
It's actually a pretty good argument.
He's saying that we can talk about the clear examples without talking about the
muddied examples. But then I would counter back and say,
"Okay, great,
then I'll just define woman as someone with two XX chromosomes,
and then just like
you would say someone with 5ARD disease would be a woman,
I would say someone who's
a trans woman is a woman, even though they don't have two XX
chromosomes." And
obviously, I didn't know where the conversation
was gonna go after that, but that's
what I had prepared and that's what I was, um,
I was hoping to debate him on. If you wanna see more stuff of what I'm
doing, I'm
actually driving down to Arizona right now.
Uh, I'm gonna be doing, uh, a debate in two days against Kai
Schwemmer. Um, I'm excited to do a lot, a lot more of these debates
because, uh, I've missed it over the last three months.
If you wanna get tickets, they're in my Linktree.
If you wanna donate to the organization, the Unfuck America Tour, where essentially
we do a bunch of debates like this, uh, the link is in the Linktree as well.
Thanks for watching.
