Understanding Kidney Function and Health
What if I told you that two small organs in your back are
constantly cleaning your blood?
These are your kidneys.
Your two kidneys sit on either side of your spine, just below the rib
cage, and they work continuously to maintain
your body's
internal balance. Inside each kidney are about a million
tiny filtering units called nephrons.
They filter your blood and separate waste
and excess substances from useful
components.
As the filtered fluid moves through the nephron, your body reclaims
water and important substances while unwanted waste
stays behind.
But your kidneys do much more than remove waste.
They help control fluid levels, electrolytes, acid-base
balance, and even play important roles.
Every minute, your kidneys are quietly filtering your blood and
maintaining the chemistry your body needs to survive.
Small organs with an enormous job.
