Israeli Spyware Threats to Privacy
Imagine the phone you're holding right now being hacked without you clicking
anything. You're scrolling the news, and an advertisement appears.
That alone is enough for an Israeli spyware company to get inside your device.
Citizen Lab and Confion have now uncovered how Israeli company Discover Teq
turned ordinary online advertisements into a delivery system for
spyware. Researchers analyzed four billion
advertising records
and found Discover Teq adverts across more than 120,000
websites and 70,000 apps in four months.
Using a platform called Controlium, a targeted phone could be infected
simply by the advertisement appearing on your screen without clicking it.
The spyware included technology developed by Candiru, an Israeli company
blacklisted even by Washington in 2021.
Researchers linked the operation to attacks targeting at least 45 Al
Jazeera devices in 2024 and 2025. Yet
Discover Teq remains an approved Google advertising vendor until this
month. Particularly for activists and journalists documenting Israeli crimes
in the
region and abroad, a compromised phone can lead to a
multitude of
vulnerabilities. It could expose confidential sources,
private
conversations, and entire networks of contacts,
and of course, your own
sensitive and private information.
That information can be used to disrupt, intimidate, or blackmail people
globally, or even worse, particularly in this region, target
for assassination. Spying on people around the world through
their devices has
become an increasingly unabated tactic abused by the Zionist entity
while receiving no legal or political repercussions for it,
with a new story
coming out every few days. In findings published earlier this month,
Polish prosecutors revealed that their country's security services
never had full
control over Pegasus, the Israeli spyware bought by Poland's
previous government. The Israeli manufacturer retained control
of the infection
server while surveillance data left Poland.
So even allied governments purchasing this technology could not protect its own
citizens from Israeli surveillance.
In Serbia this Monday, researchers have also reported
that university rector
Vladan Djokic had his phone infected with Pegasus during student-led
protests. The same investigation identified a number
of student
activists also targeted by the spyware.
These cases show how Israeli surveillance technology reached a wide range of
targets: journalists, activists, political opponents, and even their own
allies, with no international effort to stop it
whatsoever.
Israel is the greatest threat to your individual security,
and your government will
do nothing to protect you.
