Wisconsin State Capitol: Granite Dome and Construction Questions

When I asked the tour guide if he believed what he was telling me, the answer he gave me is probably going to shock you.

But I paid for the official government tour of this building, the state employee gave me the whole tour, and I asked him one thing, do you actually believe what you're telling me?

He looked at me directly in the face and said, only if it was a miracle.

The guy whose literal job is explaining this place told me the only explanation is a miracle.

Sent us to the one person who still trusts everything the tour guide says.

So let me give you the numbers he gave me because the numbers don't lie and that's what got me.

This is the only granite dome in the entire United States.

Every other state capital, different material, just this one and I'm standing here looking at these columns thinking, where do I even think I am right now?

Rome? No. Wisconsin. Then I walk inside and tell me this looks like a government office.

Tell me this isn't a cathedral. Marble. Frescoes on a ceiling.

Built in the 1900s. In Wisconsin. And it looks like something they charge you 20 euros to walk into in Europe.

And a guy pulls out this book, the architect, George B. Post.

Before this, he built the largest building in human history, the 1893 World's Fair, 32 acres under one roof.

Then he died in 1913, four years before this place was even finished.

Same pattern every single time. The dome alone, 2,500 tons of steel lifted in 1907.

How do you even lift 2,500 tons of steel with ropes and horse teams?

Come on. And nobody on a tour even asked.

The women they put on top finished 1917, four years before women in Wisconsin could legally vote.

The tour guide called that a coincidence.
