Federal Indictments for Illegal Voting
Today we are announcing that a federal grand jury returned
indictments against 10
foreign nationals alleged to have committed unlawful voting and registration
offenses in the state of Minnesota.
In total, the grand jury's indictments include nine
counts of illegal voting
by an alien and nine counts of making a false claim of citizen-
citizenship in order to register to vote.
Charges include illegally voting in the general elections of twenty twenty-two,
twenty twenty-four, and the midterm, um, the primary elections of
August of this year, of August twenty twenty6.
The defendants that have been charged include foreign nationals from
Brazil, Ghana, and Liberia.
So we have, we have talked repeatedly about the
importance of election
integrity, and we're, we're certainly not gonna stop talking
about that
now. Voter fraud erodes the public's trust in
our
electoral system, and it's vital to our democratic process
that we do everything that we can to restore that trust.
The most basic way the Department of Justice can accomplish this
restoration of trust is by working to make sure the only people
voting
in an election in the United States are American citizens who are
eligible to vote.
