Sunscreen Use and Skin Cancer Risks
This study did find that people who used sunscreen more frequently were
also more likely to develop one of the riskiest forms of skin cancer,
melanoma. This was not because of the chemicals in the sunscreen,
but more likely due to what researchers call the sunscreen paradox.
They think frequent sunscreen users may also be spending more time
in strong sunlight without necessarily applying enough sunscreen on their skin
or topping it up as often as they should
Therefore, actually ultimately exposing themselves more to sun,
protecting less, and developing suntan, sunburn,
and then of course later leading to skin cancer.
