Understanding Sperm Production and Recycling
What happens to the millions of sperm your body produces if you don't
ejaculate?
They don't keep accumulating forever.
Your body has a continuous recycling system.
Sperm are continuously produced inside tiny structures called
seminiferous tubules within the testes.
Immature sperm then move into the epididymis, a tightly coiled
tube attached to each testicle.
Inside the epididymis, sperm mature and develop the ability to move
effectively. Some can remain stored there
while new sperm
continue to be produced. But sperm don't live forever.
Older sperm gradually lose viability and are broken down while their
cellular components are reabsorbed by the body.
So the process works as a cycle.
Sperm are produced, mature, stored, and eventually broken down and
recycled.
Not ejaculating doesn't make sperm build up indefinitely.
Your body continuously manages and replaces them as part of normal
reproductive biology.
