Debate on Privacy vs Safety in America
Um, I value my privacy. My family values their privacy.
My employees value their privacy. But what we're talking about
is safety as well.
And so I think when people talk about just one of these, privacy or
safety, they're prioritizing the wrong thing.
And what we have to prioritize as a country is compromise.
How do we have our safety and how do we balance privacy?
And so when I think about legislation that calls for an outright ban,
that's like
banning vehicles. That, that would never have made sense.
Instead, what we did is we introduced laws against drunk
driving.
We introduced laws around seat belts, laws around airbags.
Whenever they want to take away our freedoms,
it's always about for our safety,
and this technology extends far beyond license plate readers at this
point. Flock Safety is putting up cameras in parks, on trails,
and playgrounds, and these are AI cameras that track people, no
longer just license plate readers.
This is about the mass surveillance network being established in America, and
nobody's falling for it. If we look at the comments here,
they will always use
safety as an excuse when they want to infringe on your
privacy.
Rip them down. Never give up liberty for the sake of
safety, Benjamin
Franklin. Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who give up liberty for safety
deserve
neither." So everyone agrees that this is the wrong move.
We do not want to give up our privacy for the sake of safety.
It's what we did with COVID, and it was a wrong move.
